We sadly said good-bye this morning to our dear Grandpa Carl…a man of much strength and character. He had a booming voice and a big presence and he will be greatly missed in our lives.
I was not able to go back to Chicago to say good-bye, so I wrote him a letter which Michael read to him. I hope that somehow these words were carried with him when he left this Earth.
(from the closing of the letter) I am not deeply religious, but I do believe in God, I do believe there is an afterlife of some form for us all. Some call it Heaven, but I think it’s really more of a chapter in the book of life. Our life is a story that we are continually writing…it started being written for us before we were born from our parents and then along the way we picked up the pen and started to add our own chapters, our own memories and experiences. When we leave this life, our story continues to be told by the people who knew us, who loved us and so the story goes on. You wrote a good story, Carl and we will do our best to keep on telling it. I pray that you go onto your next chapter with love in your heart and peace in your soul.
And I hope he did.
