Spreading the Love

009 013Michael was gone for a week recently and while he was away I started a cowl pattern (thinking that it would be for myself), but as soon as he came home and tried it on, I knew it was really meant to be his.  It fits him better than me,  it keeps him warm and he likes wearing it, so that made it easy for me to decide it was his.  And I’m happy knowing he has some warm wooly love wrapped around his neck. Isn’t he handsome?014 015I know, I know…more of these damn coffee cuffs. I’m sure your sick of seeing them, but lately that’s all I seem to be making. And I won’t complain about that, it just doesn’t offer a lot of variety to share with you here on the blog. This is the 5th batch I’ve made since November. This time I stitched on felted hearts instead of buttons in honor of Valentine’s Day. They are really selling quickly and I have to force myself to keep up with the inventory.   There are positive and negative aspects to this: on the one hand, I am making something that is selling and am earning money (win win), on the other hand it doesn’t allow me much time to make all of the other things I want to make or do.  I just don’t have oodles of free crafting time…just a few hours at night. What to do?  I keep getting asked to make more of the sweater mitts and people always ask, “Do you have an etsy shop?”

For those of you who have successfully started your own crafting venture/business…how did you do it in the beginning stages? A part of me just thinks I need to take a few months of not selling anything at all to build up an inventory of a few different items.  But then I feel like I’m missing out on the sales that I could be making and that I would be taking away from the momentum that has been built.  I’m perplexed.025I did take a wee little break from the cuffs to start a V-Day bunting using pink burlap.  Maybe I’ll actually finish it by next week…
